The Burnet High School powerlifting teams competed at the Lampasas Invitational Jan. 18.

The Bulldogs finished third in the overall team standings, while the Lady Dawgs were fourth.

Head coach Tyler McIntosh noted the magic number was 11 — 11 Bulldogs and 11 Lady Dawgs competed.

“We had multiple lifters place in the top five of their weight classes, earning team points and medals,” he said.

The Bulldogs were paced by Johnny Charron and Brady Rygaard, who both won their weight classes. Rygaard also took home the Boys Top Lifter Light Platform honor.

John Buster and Brandon Westbrook each earned silver medals, while Andrew Hudgins earned a bronze medal.

Abby Smith added another gold medal to her trophy case to lead the Lady Dawgs. She also took home the Girls Top Lifter Light Platform honor.

Gracie Farmer and Maddi Moise each won silver medals, while Maddy Cardenas and Alexis Leatherwood earned bronze medals.

“Coach (Zane) Hicks and myself are extremely proud of how our athletes competed and look forward to seeing them improve over the next few weeks,” McIntosh said.

Burnet will compete at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Llano Invitational at the John L. Kuykendall Events Center and Arena.
